This product was handmade at the Matilda Flow Inclusion (MFI) Foundation using textile waste that was sent to Ghana from the Global North. This includes upcycled cotton t-shirts and denim jeans as the primary material along with upcycled jackets for product linings and zippers. The materials are sourced from Kantamanto Market in Greater Accra, Ghana through relationships with local retailers of secondhand products. The MFI Foundation prioritizes sourcing materials that retailers have been unable to sell locally because of their size or style and are thus likely to become textile waste if the MFI Foundation does not rescue them. Some products also include hand-carved bamboo clips. Sewing threads and tie-dye materials used to make the products are synthetic. MFC and the MFI Foundation, however, are actively exploring and experimenting with alternatives such as natural dyes for use in future products.

We ship our products using USPS priority mail boxes or padded sleeves, which are recyclable, and package them in waterproof mailers that are compostable, biodegradable, and reusable. We encourage you to recycle and reuse or compost.

On our Etsy Store, for orders under 35 USD, shipping is 15 USD. For orders of 35 USD and above, shipping is free. Items ship via USPS priority mail, which typically arrives in 1-3 business days once posted. Orders are posted once per week, typically on Tuesdays, so customers can expect to receive their product within 8 business days (1-3 business days for shipping and 1-5 business days for fulfillment). This item ships from our product warehouse in Minnesota, United States. MFC products sold on Etsy currently only ship to locations in the United States. To explore a special order to other locations, contact MFC using the contact form at makefashionclean.org/contact. Products can be purchased in Ghana directly from the MFI Foundation. All products in this Etsy store were handmade by artisans, most of whom are trainees, at the MFI Foundation. While MFC and the MFI Foundation are working hard to continue to improve product consistency, the products currently on sale here are some of the first we created through this partnership. We hope you will be fully satisfied with your order, but we also want to be transparent about product expectations. While we have reviewed and audited each product, there are some variations in sizes, fit, styles, patterning, and tie-dye colors across the products. If you are looking for a product with machine-made precision, the products currently listed in our Etsy store may not be the right fit for you. Instead, one of our future product lines or another upcycling company may be a better fit. The products in the Etsy store are a good fit for someone who is looking for a unique product that makes a positive social and environmental impact and has a story.

Orders on our Etsy store can be cancelled prior to shipment. Our Etsy store does not currently allow for returns or exchanges. This is because our fulfillment team is volunteer-run and has limited capacity to process returns and because we also wish to avoid the impacts of excess shipping. If your product is not as ordered, is damaged, or is not delivered, use the contact form at makefashionclean.org/contact to request a refund within 30 days. Wherever possible, we hope you can find a friend, family member, or community member who will make use of the product if you can't.

When your MFC product reaches the end of its lifecycle, we encourage you to dispose of it responsibly by downcycling it. If you do not have a process established in your own community, we recommend purchasing a TakeBack bag from ForDays (fordays.com/products/take-back-bag). Once you receive a TakeBack bag, you can place your product in this bag, along with any other textile waste you have. The contents of the bag are then recycled or downcycled responsibly, and you receive a store credit to purchase recycled products from ForDays.

MFC products are machine washable, but we recommend cold / cool and gentle settings to extend the product life cycle. Air dry whenever possible to prevent the environmental impact associated with machine drying.
