Upcycled products in the MFC Beginnings and MFC Blue Circle Etsy stores were handcrafted at the Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation using repurposed cotton that was sent to Ghana from the Global North. This includes upcycled cotton t-shirts and repurposed denim jeans as the primary material along with upcycled jackets for product linings and zippers. A small selection of products in the MFC Beginnings collection are not upcycled but were rather made from organic cotton, which was spun in either India or Mali, at the start of our collaboration. Materials for repurposing are sourced from Kantamanto Market in Greater Accra, Ghana through relationships with local retailers of secondhand products. Some products also include hand-carved bamboo clips. Sewing threads and tie-dye materials used to make the products are synthetic.
Tie-dye in the MFC Beginnings collection was hand-dyed by artisans at the Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation using tie-dye methods taught by a local master artisan and synthetic dyes. After significant development work, we have subsequently introduced natural dyes in later collections.
As of September 2026, we ship products to customers in the United States via USPS Priority Mail shipping. Products were shipped to the United States from Ghana via a mixture of air and sea freight/package shipping.
Shipping (USPS Priority Mail 1 to 3 business day shipping) is included in the list price on Etsy. Depending on the product and where it is stored, fulfillment time varies from 1 to 9 business days. We are only able to fullfill orders to U.S. addresses at this time via our Etsy stores.

All products in our Etsy stores were handmade by artisans, many of whom are trainees, at the Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation in Ghana. While MFC and the Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation Foundation are working hard to continue to improve product consistency, the products currently on sale in the stores are some of the first we created through this partnership. We hope you will be fully satisfied with your order, but we also want to be transparent about product expectations. While we have reviewed and audited each product, there are some variations in sizes, fit, styles, patterning, and colors across the products. If you are looking for a product with precise specifications, the products currently listed in our Etsy store may not be the right fit for you. The products on Etsy are a good fit for someone who is looking for a unique product that makes a positive social and environmental impact and has a story.
Orders on our Etsy store can be cancelled prior to shipment. Our Etsy stores do not currently allow for returns or exchanges. This is because our fulfillment team is volunteer-run and has limited capacity to process returns. If your product is not as ordered, is damaged, or is not delivered, contact us via Etsy or via care@makefashionclean.org to request a refund within 30 days. Wherever possible, we hope you can find another individual who will make use of the product if you can’t.
When your upcycled product reaches the end of its lifecycle, we encourage you to dispose of it by recycling or downcycling it. If you do not have a process established in your own community, we suggest purchasing a TakeBack bag from Trashie (https://www.trashie.io/). Once you receive a TakeBack bag, you can place your product in this bag, along with any other textile waste you may have. The contents of the bag are then recycled or downcycled responsibly, and you receive credit to purchase recycled products through Trashie.
Our products are machine washable, but we recommend cold / cool and gentle settings to extend the product life cycle. Air dry when possible.
